about lash extensions – let me PYO...

Updated: Feb 17

I'm writing this article, because no matter who you choose to do your lash extensions, the more information you have, the more pointed questions you can ask.

Consultations

Consultations are important for you and your lash tech. They don't have to take a long time, but it's a good time for you to get a feel for your lasher. Meanwhile, she'll be paying attention to things like your eye shape, the health of your natural lashes, whether you have curly or straight eyelashes and other considerations that will play a role in the lash extension application process.

Bring a picture to your appointment of a set your lash artist has done for INSPO. That way you'll know it's a style she's comfortable with, or even have the materials she needs to complete your set. There are a lot of talented lash artists out there and they all have lashing styles they are comfortable with.

Once your lash tech takes a look at your lashes, she'll be able to give you realistic expectations based on the length, density and health of your natural lashes. For nine clients out of ten, she'll be able to do exactly what you want; however, there are times when what a client wants and what can actually be done won't match up. Don't be shy about asking questions.

Lash INSPO... What can I expect?

The diagram below demonstrates how the density of your natural lashes affect how the same lash fan will look on different individuals. This is why you can't always expect your lashes to look exactly like someone else's. But you can expect your lash tech to find a solution you'll love. Be sure to ask for feedback on your natural lashes when speaking with your lash tech.

Another thing your lash artist will take into consideration is the shape and position of your eyes.

What looks beautiful on one person's eyes can take away from the aesthetics of another's. Long for one person will appear different then long for someone else based on the distance between the lash line and eyebrow. A style that can open one person's eyes can complete overwhelm another person's. Be sure to speak with your lash artist about your eye shape and the position of your eyes in relationship to the style of lash extensions you have your heart set on.

Classics, Hybrids, Volumes or Mega Volumes can all be shaped as cat eye or doll eye, and so on. Hybrids, Volumes and Mega Volumes can be wispy or fluffy. The combination of all of these things are how your lash artist will help you find a lash extension style that accentuates your eyes beautifully.

Keeping your natural lashes strong and healthy...

My clients know that one of the most important things to me is that we work together to keep their natural lashes healthy while wearing lash extensions. I'm very careful about how much weight and length I'll subject their natural lashes to. Over time, long term damage to the lash follicle can occur if these things are not taken into consideration.

An experienced lash artist understands how to achieve your desired look without placing too much weight on your lashes. Individual volume lash extensions are considerably light weight, therefore volume fans are not necessarily heavy. Your lash tech will know where to draw the line for the sake of the health of your natural lashes.

In the life of a lash extension... fills are a must!

Lash extensions are a beautiful thing! It's nice to get up in the morning and not have to worry about makeup - a little lip gloss and you're good to go. Lash refills are an important part of keeping your natural lashes healthy. I recommend you have your lashes refilled every 2-3 weeks depending on how fast your lashes grow. But don't allow them to get to the point of twisting your natural lashes, because at that point, you may experience natural lash breakage.

Lash refills are not just about adding new extensions to new lash growth. But your lash tech should gently remove lash extensions that have grown out before refilling your extensions. She will also have an opportunity to keep an eye on your natural lashes to make sure they're remaining healthy and strong.

Sanitation

I could write an entire article on disinfecting and sanitizing, but I'll just say this... if you don't see evidence of appropriate sanitation. Grab your purse and leave.

Love and beautiful lashes to you all,
